I was listening to talk radio the other day and the subject was losing our freedom in America. The interviewer was a conservative pundit. The person being interview was the author of a book called “ It could happen here” part of the discussion was about the USA in the 1930’s and how we almost became a fascist country. That was compared to our country today. The interviewee, an proclaimed liberal, was pointing to the Bush administration and accusing the president and previous Republican congress for the decline in the freedom that American citizens enjoy today as a result of the “Patriot Act” it was also suggested that if allowed some of our generals who may get elected to the Presidency would or could take this county into a fascism comparable to Hitler’s Germany. The author suggested that if the citizens of the USA did not realize how bad the conservative view is then there is a real chance of this prediction to become reality.

Not once during this entire debate, and I admit I did not hear the end of it, just the beginning to about the middle. No one addressed one of the most important protections of our constitution. No one ever mentioned one of the key ingredients of Hitler’s success in becoming a totalitarian dictator in Germany and taking the citizens of his country into what became WWII. The ingredient I am speaking of is “Gun Control”. Before any government can totally enslave a people, it first must remove their ability to resist the injustice of tyranny. Hitler placed into law a complete gun control program that essentially disarmed the citizens where only the police and military could possess any type of weapons that could pose a threat to the Nazis. The rest is history.

This example can be placed in other parts of the historical record of the 20th century where governments first disarmed a population in the name of public safety before enslaving and killing a combined total of over one hundred and seventy million people. The sad part of this is a large majority of the readers of this article will not know what I am talking about as they do not know world history and will just say,” that could not possibly have happened as we would have heard about it”. We it did, you were just not listening.

There is a faction of our government that has worked tirelessly in removing our rights protected under the 2nd amendment, for the citizens to own arms. We are not talking about arms for hunting or sporting purposes, we are talking about the arms of an infantryman. The fact that over 100 million privately owned fire arms in the USA remain silent is a testament to the fact that they remain in the hands of responsible citizens. If our left Liberal leaders have their way and succeed in disarming the population of the USA, The Constitution and freedom we are barely holding on to will disappear and we will have nothing to help us regain it.

The problems of a government out of control are already apparent. Businesses and private individuals are taxed on everything we touch. As a business owner, I must pay a use tax to the government every year for the pleasure of using my paid for desks, computers, copiers and everything else I use in my business, this amounts to a rent I must pay for all I invested in to start my business. My fellow citizens this is only the tip of the ice berg.

Let our government take away our most important protection in the name of public safety and you can kiss your freedom and you kids freedom goodbye as any unrestrained government in history has always shown no bounds for the control it will exercise over a population if allowed.
